Fifteen years ago Gunilla and Sven Montan came across an practically ruined farm in western Ljungby, in Skåne, Sweden. Regardless of the require for critical renovation — the outdoors was mainly covered in sheet metal, the windows necessary replacing and the only thing that worked was a single little toilet — they fell for its possible and decided to take it on anyway, as there was also beautiful old floors, hand-planed boards in the walls and ceiling and a 1920s Aga, also. And there was the lovely cobblestone courtyard, as properly.
With 4 buildings on the house — the primary property and 3 barns — they 1st focused on producing the property liveable for themselves and their 4 youngsters. Gunilla and Sven utilized standard supplies and approaches to replace and restore the old ones, and created some discoveries along the way, as well — in the course of their work they discovered that the house was really a lot older than they first thought, with sections dating from the 1700s. Throughout the very first twelve years the family members lived in Malmö and utilised the farm as a trip home, but 3 years ago Gunilla and Sven decided to move there permanently. With the three barns now converted into summer season properties for their youngsters and grandchildren, they enjoy visits from household, who also appreciate the farm’s bounty of raspberries, strawberries and other berries as well as the apples, pears and plums in the orchards. Their pets also appreciate it — the red currants are a preferred among the hens and the rooster. Happily busy with the farm, visiting household (and lots of travel to see them in turn, as their youngsters are scattered throughout the world), Gunilla and Sven are genuinely reaping the rewards of their years of tough work.
