naturehumaine have recently completed the conversion of a 1920′s duplex in Montréal, Canada. The client wanted to use the second storey of her 1920s duplex by converting her former rental unit into 3 bedrooms and an office space. Although the grey-stone front facade only needed minor restorations, the back of the home was transformed totally. An emphasis on transparency creates continuous visual and physical connections with the backyard. A cedar clad volume, containing the master bedroom, punches via the glass exterior wall and cantelivers more than the backyard, sheltering the patio under. The wood cladding continues via to the inside, blurring the boundaries amongst interior and exterior.
